Monday, APRIL 6, 2026 at 7 pm - "Buried Treasure: Discovering Westborough's Stone Age"
For thousands of years Native peoples explored this land on trails leading north, south, east and west. Archaeologist Michelle Gross describes the work and discoveries of invaluable stone tools unearthed during the three archaeological digs in Westborough in the 1970s and 1980s. She and Professor Curtiss Hoffman discovered artifacts dating more than 8,000 years ago around Naagawoomcoom ( Lake Chauncy), Assabet River headwaters (Mill Pond), and Lake Hoccomocco Charlestown Meadows. The Native peoples (mainly Nipmucs or “People of the Fresh Waters,”) created these stone tools to use in their hunting, fishing, gathering, farming and living in seasonal camps.
Program to be held at the Sibley House, 13 Parkman Street, Westborough.
